This past weekend four of my friends and I went to our first Kentucky Derby. It’s odd, considering I am a Louisville native, but my parents never made the biggest deal out of Derby, so I never really thought much about it.
Now, I have a lot of really cute pictures of my friends and I in our hats, throwing our sorority symbol, and with random dudes dressed up as horses, but I chose this one, of us sitting on the dirty ground surrounded by a standing crowd, because I think it best displays my life. Because, somehow, without even thinking about it, I always end up sitting on the ground.
One of my favorite stories from my freshman year of college is of a night when i went to the opening of an 18 and up nightclub. It was in a pretty sketchy warehouse, which didn’t stop me from planting my drunk ass on the ground and texting ‘I’m not to proud to sit on the floor’ to at least a dozen people. Somehow, the phrase has always stuck with me, becoming a motto of sorts, which describes my life perfectly.
